Wine picks for 5/18/05

Curran 2004 Santa Ynez Grenache Blanc $19.99

A beautiful wine of pale green gold, first whiff brings a perfumed floral aroma laced with pear and citrus. Medium bodied, a vibrant, lively white, showing fleshy flavors of peach and pear with hints of citrus and lychee. The finish is crisp and fruity lingering nicely. Unfortunately only a few hundred cases made.

Drink with antipasti appetizers

2820 Wine Company 2002 Napa Valley Zinfandel $14.99

This wine of deep reddish purple color has a big sweet nose beginning with plum, black cherry, vanilla and light smoke. This Zinfandel has a jam like concentration in the mouth giving a core of rich, ripe plum, and subtle flavors of cherries and blackberry. Medium-bodied, soft and juicy, the wine’s acidity is balanced and the tannins are ripe as well as integrated.

Pairs best with a corkscrew, a couple of glasses, great conversation and good friends or maybe some BBQ tri-tip
